calfskin heads and tacked bottom toms

Loading...

Any old timers out there ever own a set of Slingerland tacked bottom head toms?

I've been wondering about resuscitating the idea, as well as learning how to tuck calfskin heads just for the sheer joy of learning something new. Please respond with fond memories only, I'm prepared to contend with humidity and never ending tuning issues...hey some guys hop up their cars, some chicks hop up their hair...I like fussing about with drums... makes me feel useful to have to tune a drum!

oooop...gotta go....is that Chic Webb I hear? Yes Sir yeah man! that's what I'm talkin 'bout.

Regards,

Glen

There is a very lengthy thread that holds much of the info on calf heads.

Calf Head History

No thread dedicated to tacked bottom heads that I know of yet.

Here is a video we put together for the Ludwig Family on how they made tucked heads in the factory.

Glen, your going to get a very pleasant surprise, there are many here who have and still own tacked bottom toms, I've owned two late 30's Radio king kits with tacked bottom toms, and a Leedy kit also with tacked bottom heads. I've also owned countless numbes of singles.I don't have any pics of those drums except the Leedy bass drum, so post some pics for us ole timers and the new members who may have never seen one or any tacked bottom tom. In fact look at the gallery pictures as we speak??

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!
