c1940 Gretsch Round Badge Marching Snare 14x10

Loading...

My father just gave my son his old snare drum. He was in an American Legion Band in 1940-1943. The music store, where my son is taking lessons and where we are looking at buying a drum set from, suggested I go on line to check out its value. It might be of interest to a Fife and Drum Corp snare drummer.

I believe it is a 14 x 10" maple marching snare drum. All the hardware is original. It has new heads on it. I will try and post pictures of it on the appropriate part of this forum.

I don't know that we want to sell it yet, but it would be nice to have an idea of its value.

Sincerely,

Roland

They're pretty common on eBay. I got one for under $200. If the drum has wood lugs and made during the war. The value will be higher.

Thank you for such a quick and knowledgeable reply. Forgive the newbie here.

I was trying to look in the glossary for which part is the lug. If that is the round hoop that holds the head on to the drum, these lugs are wood. What are the long bars on the sides with the wing nuts that hold that circle (the lug?) on to the drum called?

I can't seem to up load pictures yet. I think the size of my photo files are too big. I don't know yet how to make them smaller before I attach them to the post.

The circles are hoops. I don't know what you mean buy the wing nut thing. But the lugs are bolted to the side of the drum and the tension rods screw into them. In the 40s to conserve metal for the war effort drums tended to have those parts made of wood. Post a picture when you can. I suspect the wing nut things are the tension rods that hold down the hoops to make the heads tight.
