Buying a vintage kit

Loading...

Hello there,

I'm planning on buying a new vintage kit. I've got a Premier resonator (i believe) from 76'. I bought it as my first kit and having an affordable price in mind, but now that I need another one and can afford a bit more,I'd like to go for for a more definitive one.

I wanted to ask you for advice in terms of good quality for the prize I'm willing to pay,as I'm quite new to the vintage market and a bit lost in it. My budget is between 2000-3000 euros. I was looking for something with a classy sound but a bit sturdy as I'm playing quite a lot now,so I thought maybe a kit from the 60s would be a good option. I live in Spain,so buying from Europe would be much better for me,in case you know a good seller.

I'd be really thankful for your help and advice!

Hi, I use a vintage 1960 Slingerland, but use modern hardware. Rustydrums.co.uk is a good place to start, and brouse around. You will find European prices higher than in the US, but even up if you buy from America with shipping and duty. You have a good budget so will have many choices.

Hello Daniela,

I second what allandwf said about checking Rustydrums. I've checked out their website and they offer some excellent vintage kits from quite a few makers. I'm sure you can find a nice vintage kit that meets your criteria. Good luck!

Any Premier or SONOR kit from that era will hold it`s own no matter how often you play them. But, you are in a area where you will find many choices like Trixon, Derry, Tromsa, any of the Dallas brands before Premier purchased them. You have a good budget and many choices, take your time view them all.

Then run it by us for opinions or facts.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

If your on tour you want a solid kit with cases , and good supply of bronze piers and heads ..I’m thinking on mid sixtys Ludwig ,,,ringo did ,so could you

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Hi, Daniela and welcome to the VDF.

In the vintage drum world I think it's better not being in a hurry. Take your time checking here and there. Buying from non EU countries will increase the bill of your drums in a 33% due to customs taxes.

Take a look at Winnie's Drumkit in Amsterdam http://www.hidehitters.com/shop/drums.html and Roberto Cavedon in Italy https://www.ilgaragediasso.net/it/prodotti/batterie/batterie-vintage

I think Rusty Drums Ltd. have overpriced sets http://www.rustydrums.co.uk/drum-sets.html

"Ebay.es" is a good choice despite the high prices in shippment. Search there by brand (Ludwig, Gretsch, Rogers, etc.) in "musical instruments" in "Union Europea". Good luck.

Hola, Daniela. Bienvenida a VDF.

Buena suerte. Si no tienes mucha idea puedes consultarlo antes de efectuar cualquier compra. Un saludo, paisana.
