Robyn/Olddrumgeek!GLAD you enjoyed the read! I guess I know that I would be able to peddle at least a few copies of that book here! I have to think about how I can edit down my meeting with Buddy, yet still retain all the parts that led to it... and then what happened when I did meet him. I will tell you this much now: I caught him in a kinda embarrassing way... and he was taken by surprise!, and, er... well... it didn't start so well because of that. But it was fine afterwards! He DID have his ever present Kent between his fingers though. Let me see what I can do to get this edited a bit! I mean, not that I tend to be wordy or anything like that you understand. Tommyp

can't wait to read more about your Buddy meet n greet. :)

Fabulous thread.

I saw Buddy live seven times between 1984 and 1986. I got to meet him fleetingly at the Colston Hall in Bristol in 1986 and managed to have my photo with him. I also saw him in his last ever performance in the UK which was on the 26th November 1986 at Ronnie Scotts in London. Midnight performance and I remember him having Kathy singing a few number's with the band, also dragging Jack Jones out of the audience to sing with the band, and during the same concert Buddy got down from the drums and attempted to play and sing at the piano. Little did anyone think that he would be dead four months later.

I have seen most of the great jazz drummers but in my opinion Buddy had everything. He only had to walk out onto the stage and he oozed corrisma!
