Buddy Rich Tom Mount

Here is one of two single tom arms that are sold with the Modular Double Tom Holder. The second pic is one of the arms taken apart. You can see the ratchet here. My fat finger is pointing to the needed ratchet piece. This would be the long part that goes in the bass drum. It would need to be a 'male' ratchet piece in the sense that it sticks out. The 'female' ratchet piece is sunken in and is the part that goes into the tom. They measure about 1 and 20/32 inch ratchet. This is a very crude tape measure, but it should be close. It is about a 1 inch pipe.

Ok, I see now..

I gather that since the hardware was "Modular" that very few of the single arms are out there as you have already found out!!!...

Looking at the piece in the second photo the one your "Fat Finger" :p is pointing to...

As a temporary fix until you find the exact part can a tube be inserted over that and expertly welded to the part?

Am I seeing this correctly?

Yes. I've already stuck it into another pipe just to see. It does fit, but it would flange it out and eventually spin. You mention welding. I thought about that, too. That would damage the chrome on it. I also considered drilling out and inserting one of those allen wrench screws to hold it...wouldn't work because it's not an exact fit. calm happy place calm happy place

dang.

I was looking at the Hercules cymbal and tom part. Are they the same size?

This is a rather interesting discussion...

I was bouncing between working on stuff and this post, and I normally do not get in the middle of a BR discussion.

I imagine TommyP is digging through his massive archives and that this is a completely unique dissection of the tom mount and he is the expert on the topic.

I do have the older top sections and will get the specs to you, but I think your hunt will take time.

What are the drums? Can we see those? Do you know the approximate year of the shells?

Hey,

This is just something that I decided to put together. It is not 'authentic' by any stretch of the imagination. I'm a player. I have a 1981 Ludwig kit in Marine Pearl. It came with Modular hardware. I've almost sold it three times. In fact, I put it on here to trade recently because I couldn't find this part!!! I'm giving it one more chance. If I strike out this time, I will sell it/trade it to someone. It's driving me crazy.

I recently purchased a Slingerland Buddy Rich kit to add to this new passion. I have been a drummer for over 40 years. I have those warm memories of Buddy on Carson and such. My first kit was a red sparkle 1964 Ludwig (22,13,16). typical stuff. Anyway, I sold off most all of my 'modern' drum kits and have gone to only vintage. I like playing similar configs and I've always liked Ringo's and Buddy's layouts (22,13,16)(16) (yes, I realize Buddy favored the 24). So, that's what I decided to adhere to. I'm working on the Slingerland right now. The chrome is soaking as I type. The gold sparkle wrap is here as is all of the hardware. I realize it's not WMP, but it's my kit and I wanted some variety.

I am now searching out the parts for a very early 60's in another sparkle (blue or red, maybe). It will be a Rogers, Ludwig, or Slingerland. I'm really not picky. I love playing and these kits are really stoking the flames.

What is the part with the ribs used for? I would bet that you could contrive the part you need from a Hercules boom stand. I had some at one time and from what I can remember it might work.

The grooved piece is the part that slots into the double tom mount. It would be considered the down-tube on a normal tom mount. The standard pipe is the part of the arm that goes into the tom.

Does the standard pipe fit properly into the bass drum mount? what is the outside diameter of the tom arm pipe? I will dig through my stuff and see if I can find that old ludwig stuff. It might take a while so forgive me if I don't get back soon.

Yes. The pipe fits into both the tom and the bass. It is reversible. The problem is one side of the ratchet is male and the other is female. You can't just use two pipes. They are both female. I think the measurement is one inch. Very close if not right on.

this may have been mentioned already but the mount on his tomtom looks like the bassdrum bracket for the original style ludwig double tom post, no?
