Brass Snare... Worth it?

Loading...

Hi friends.

A local dealer (in ebay style web) is selling a Snare without info.

Do you know something about this model?

Bronze or brass snares sounds better than wood snares?

The item cost approx. $70-80 what do you think?

Thanks.

Old European snare, some marching student model, I'd say. Hoops look a lot like Amati. Sonor/Trowa/Roxy, etc. is more likely, tough. If the shell isn't beat up too much, it might sound interesting, but it's just a single-tension, so it'll be limited in tuning.

For 80 dollars? Eh, I think 'd pass, unless you really want it. Get some pics of snare strainer system and if it's complete, then MAYBE. But I still don't think it's worth it.

However, let's wait what other, more knowledgeable, people say.

If it was complete, with strainer, throwoff and butt, maybe eighty bucks,if you dig the vibe,if not complete 25.00 30.00 , if you have some lugs and spare throws and butts laying around it might be worth converting to double tension and using maybe a modern gated snare side rim,you may get lucky and have a nice sounding brass snare on the cheap. As far as the differences between wood and brass drums,I don't feel one is better than the other across the board,I always pretty much own one of each, but a brass snare is usually going to be of good quality, pretty musical sounding, mellow nicely with age,and be sensitive and responsive,so they generally make good general purpose snares.

Thanks a lot.

I assumed that is expensive. All you see its all it is.

Don't buy is my choice. Thanks.

I have a nice 12" Yamaha wood snare (no old one), and reading the forum I'll convert a 14" floor tom in a deep snare, is a Peace DNA.
