[COLOR="DarkRed"]The shells are rough sanded from the factory...the grain is relatively "open". Fine sanding and then tung oiling tightened up the grain and the surface density of the interior shell...so there's more 'bounceback' to the sound going on in there.
Makes them richer & livelier sounding, louder, a bit more punchy.
On another Stagestar, I took it one step further... and recut the batter edges to a sharp 45 degree (factory is a 45 with a blunted roundover to the outside) as well as oiling the interiors. That really made 'em punch even more....
