youtube is flaking out (check isitdown website; been reported)

https://memphisdrumshop.com/cymbals/bosphorus/philly

Still not a Zildjian (from either continent..)

You know ever since Old K was snuffed out in 78 and the small turkish brands began to sprout. Istanbul Co. in the early 80s.

they had the body (sound) of the cymbal ok- fair-fine.

But always 'fell down' in the cup area. (compared to Zildjian -either continent (A in America or K in Turkey)

40 years on they (turkish makers) still haven't got around to making a low pitched ( like Zildjian -either continent) cup.

Here with this Philly Joe 21" Ride we have an attempt.

How hard is it for (the turkish makers) to make a low wide cup (old stamp style) or tall/large (intermediate style) . Cup.

Must be phenomenally difficult...it's taking 40 years..

Wherever it went, I saw it, and that was a nice sounding cymbal. I wanted to hear it again but it vanished. You don't hear bell out of it til you play bell. I kinda like the firetruck bell sound but I think you know what I mean.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

And I'll second that opinion. One of the things that has always bugged me about these Bos. cymbals was their dinky little bells. And a little more weight would be good too. Notice I said "a little".

The Cup/Bell has been a 'let-down' from every post-oldk , Turkish cymbal maker since the early 80s..

I've never played or owned one (and I've owned enough) and said "damn. nice bell." or "damn. that's a bell".

A bog-standard 20" Avedis Medium Ride has a cup/bell that'd eat any of the post- old K Turkish makers alive in depth low pitch and musicality. Meaning usable

for Latin tinged Jazz ala Art Blakey or Elvin Jones.

From Mel Lewis Istanbuls to Jeff Hamilton Hammers all...piercing.

Ultra-high way- above the staff- high. piercing

higher than that:

And a multi-tonal bell is superior to a mono-tonal one. Variations in bell tones mean more sound color in the cymbal overall. Just think of the bell as being the "brain" of the cymbal. Multi-tonal bells just have a higher IQ.

I have a Bosphorous 22" Wide Ride that I got from the company when I endorsed the cymbals in 2006-7. That's another story altogether that I won't expand upon right now. Let's just say I terminated the relationship after a series of blunders on their part.

It's a very nice, dark sounding ride, and surprisingly, works very well on my rock gigs. I have only used it a handful of times. The problem is the awful sounding bell. I wish they'd do something to improve their bells. It's dinky and plinky sounding, and I tend to use a lot of bell. It's a shame.

Forget about more cowbell.

What we need here is more cymbal bell.

The timing of your post is great.. My son and I were just discussing his 22 and 20 inch Hammer rides, which as you know we like very much. The one criticism I made of them was that the bells were a bit too small. And then I said that to the best of my recollection almost all the bells on Bosphorus cymbals tended to be small side. And now you post this. Serendipity. :)
