I sometimes find myself guilty of wanting to place blame on something or someone for bad things that happen. When I catch myself doing that, I try hard to resist resorting to that tactic. There's a heck of a lot of that going on in our country concerning real issues that are more important than the market value of round badge Gretsch drums or vintage Swivomatic Rogers drum sets.
Bop/Jazz Kits
"Who knows what it is worth; prices have gone down on these sets since Steve Maxwell wrote an article about them being in the $6000 price range some ten years ago".I find this statement to be very funny. Now, Steve Maxwell is being blamed. This statement accuses him of being responsible for the downturn in vintage Gretsch drum prices just like someone in politics or business blames all negative things on the former chief executive.
Uh, I believe you misconstrued my statement rather dramatically. I was not blaming Steve at all. Merely stating the facts. Going back a decade or more, prices for certain vintage drums were at a high point the market doesn't seem to have been able to duplicate since. That applies at least to Gretsch round badge sets and maple Dyna-sonics, things with which I have some familiarity.
The point I was trying to make was, regardless of how high the value, if I have a drum set, I will want to play out with it. I was not blaming Steve for the drop in value of Gretsch RB drum sets during the past 12 years..
