Bollero update and questions

Loading...

I posted recently about a few new acquisitions, including a sparkle blue Bollero.

Ralf had never seen a Bollero badge without a grommet hole and asked me to remove a lug and take a pic. This is the best I could do for now. I'm still looking for my ipod... Btw the lug insert (not shown) seems to be brass and has 2 flat sides, not the usual shape. Also the lug casing is heavier than the lugs on my Stewart and isn't divided into 2 sections, like the Stewart lugs are, therefore the springs are longer.

The bass drum seems to be a "standard" pre international 21 5/8". Has anybody seen this on a MIJ kit? I have been digging since saturday and can find nothing on this apart from the usual suspects (Premier, Ajax, Sonor etc.) There is a calfskin head on the beater side. I am planning to use that as a reso head. After looking at prices for a pre international beater head, I think I'm going to try and make a 1/4" spacer for each lug out of high-density rubber and fit it with a 22' head. Fingers crossed. I would have forked out the $ for a custom Remo one if I was planning on keeping this kit, but I have to flip it for financial reasons and I bought the kit for the 1959 Ludwig Barrett Deems snare really. Thanks for any input!

PM? Sorry ... wait a minute ... open again! ;)

The pic of the lug backside confirms, too, that this is not Star made.

So I'm 'off' (as I use to say when it's no longer a Star's issue).

Maybe Mikey777 or Jonnistix can be of help?

Thanks for your input, Ralf! That's a least a start. Now can anybody tell me why in blazes an MIJ kick would be pre-metric? From what I have read the MIJ invasion didn't really happen until the later 70's in the UK and this kit looks 60's because of the rerings, Slingy type lugs and sparkle wrap. The mystery continues.
