Since it's my project, I'm selfishly keeping the best cosmetic bits on the one I keep, but honestly it will look great because I'll be doing a full tear down and detailing regardless.

EDIT=> I also have a really rough looking keystone shell that I could glass bead and either paint or clearcoat (if it looks OK) which would look something like and Acrolite shell I imagine. The shell is completely bare now (no badge either) but it is clear that it was a keystone badge. I'm not certain right now if it's a pre- or post- 1968 shell yet. Just throwing that out there.

I received a second one, so I can make myself one nice one.

I need some parts, which I can get new for short money but I need (well, would like) new Ludwig heads for it. An x-thin clear snare side head and a coated top head, like an ambassador I guess. Maybe a diplomat weight would be better. Let me know what you have for heads please!

I'm still planning to let one go when I'm done.

Found some f these resonant heads by they are expensive for old stock from the 70's-80's.

Nobody has any they're willing to part with?

I may end up with a diplomat resonant and coated ambassador on top.

I've used all of these heads on Super-Sensitives with good results:

Batter - Remo Coated Diplomat, Remo Coated Ambassador, Evans Orchestral, Evans Coated G1, Ludwig Medium Coated.

Resonant - Remo Hazy Ambassador, Remo Ambassador No Collar, Evans 300, Evans Orchestral 200, Ludwig X-Thin.

My preferred setup is Ludwig Medium Coated over Ludwig X-Thin Clear

If I go with Ludwig heads,I'd like to have the 70's version. The current heads have the 60's logo, which is cool for a 60's kit, but what about me? I found some NOS heads (well, resonant ones anyway) but I'm going to see how the one I have is. I should have it off today. I also like the look of the crystal clear resonant head. We probably had that resonant head (or the older one) on the Supraphonic we had in high school. That drum sounded good no matter what sort of abuse it received (and it received it constantly!)

From your list, it looks like you never ran a diplomat resonant. Would that be close in thickness to a Ludwig X-thin resonant?

The Evans Orchestral 200 is a 2 mil thickness head. I have found that the diplomat weighted snare side head tends to dry and focus the sound. Really good for articulation bad for overall body and tone. If you want your snare to have some ring and body to it you need to stick with a 3 mil weighted head.

As a side note, I am not sure what thickness the Ludwig X-Thin head is. The biggest benefit of this head is the low collar which will allow the resonant rim to sit higher in relation to the shell. This will allow full disengagement of the Super-Sensitive snare mechanism without contacting the bottom of the snare gate on the rim.

The mechanism seems to be quite simple. Once the cast parts are set correctly the system is virtually silent. I like it.

I have various issues with the throw on both drums but I hope to make one good keeper and one working drum for sale.

By the way, are these the correct lug screws?
