Is there a serial number ink stamped inside the shell? You can usually see them looking through the grommet hole.

There are 5 badges for Ajax , that I know of. The two oldest, were wing shaped, then triangular and quite large---made of brass. They were pre-war I think. The next was, later 40's up to about 1960, an oval, fitted with two tacks, 3/4" apart either side of the vent, with no grommet . The next was the square one that Capt. Wierd , mentioned. It went around the grommet hole but was also tacked, with a tack in each corner about 2" apart. The next was a cast white metal ,chromed script badge, that said Ajax B&H . It was usually directly across from the vent and was fitted with two integral cast pins that were pressed into the shell. One was lower than the other, they were 1 3/4" apart and they went right through the shell, where they were peined flat, to lock the badge.

There were also Edgware and Stratford and Besson badges on the same basic drum. All of the ones I have seen of those were the cast white metal type and the Edgware badge had pins 1 3/4" apart as well. If one of those was on the drum, you might be able to make out an imprint on the wrap.

You should be able to determine the badge type by locating the relavent holes in the wrap.

It is always possible that B&H sold unbadged drums. Some companies would do that by special order to a music distributor for instance, to be badged later or sold as a generic drum.

When you get it , check the serial# and have a look for the identifying holes that attached the badge. Those two things together should help pin it down a bit.
