Blaemire Snare Restoration

Thanks Jerry, I would really like to try some green fiberglass pieces to patch holes. That would be great. I will let you know when I can come out. Did you obtain that Ludwig Tom Mount for bass Drum? I believe I have one on my Blaemire 16 by 20 Bass Drum that has to be re-finished. I will not be re-installing the mount. I will be patching yet another hole. If mine is the right one you can have it for free. Yea!

Looking good Scott! I like the double row of lugs on the snare, always liked that look.;)

Thanks Mendozart, Are those your Blaemire snares in the picture?

Very Nice. Where did they come from? Did you refinish them in the raw?

Went to Jerry's and picked up a cut off of a 14 inch shell for the hole patching on my 14 by 8 snare.

Finished putting the lugs on last night.

A long day of fumes and dust.

I brought out my 16 by 16 Floor Tom for him to check the tuning. We removed the top Emperor and put on one of Jerry's EC2 Evans heads.

The tone was deeper with less overtone/ring with the EC2. I liked it.

Went out and bought a new EC2 SST since the originals have been discontinued.

Sounds almost the same as EC2.

Jerry also taught me about really stretching out the new heads.

Serious manipulation including some Karate chop like hits in the head center.

So now I really push and massage the head edges at the lugs and all around the drum. It really makes the drum sound better.

I like going to Jerry's.

Thanks, Scott

Mine is on the left, Jerry's is on the right. Jerry built both of them, they are the raw finish. Mine came from the lot of shells that my toms came from.

I remember the first time I saw Jerry's method of seating the heads, probably had the same look as you. But, it works, and I've gotten so much better at tuning drums since I saw his methods. I also like going to Jerry's house.;)

Thanks guys!

I think of my place as Blaemire heaven.

Here is a shot of a mother load of shells...some of which are now part of Gregs kit (I think) and some that made some really cool concert toms.

Nice to have you over again Scott. How did the shirt fit?

Actually, I didn't get any from that lot. But, I did get six from the red lot, and one from the blue lot.:D;)

I finished the big snare and played on it last night. I tuned it low. The response is real comfortable. The tone is deep. I had a real good time playing it.

I accidentally put an ambassador snare bottom head on that I already had new in the box. I usually use a diplomat on the bottom.

Had some snare buzz. Adjusted the snares. A little muffling on the top head lessened the buzz. Sounds fine today. What are your thoughts on diplomat verses ambassador on the snare bottom head. I am using old school white coated ambassador on the top.

Thanks Everyone

Hey Scott,

The snare looks great! I bet that snare has a great fat sound to it. I'm running an Evans Power Dot batter head with an Aquarian Classic Clear snare side head. I'm using Puresound Super 30's wires, and my snare sounds great. This is what I like after trying numerous head combos and different wires.
