Black Beauty Tension Knob Rubber Grommet Question

Loading...

I`ve got a 1979/80 Black Beauty snare that has a rubber grommet at the base of the tension knob on the strainer. These were designed to give protection from over tightening the tension knob against the top of the strainer where the tension screw goes in.Mine is starting to deteriorate and needs replacing(a piece of it has broken away). My question is will the new Ludwig Black Beauty rubber grommets fit and work properly and can i get something like this at the local hardware store.I would imagine the new issues would work but need your advice here. With thanks...

Wayne,

Not sure if Ludwig makes the bushing/grommet/bumper anymore, so you may have to go the hardware store route.

I've attached a pic of the part from my snare (which looks like it's getting dried out as well) and I attached a pic of the most recent Ludwig parts catalog for you. It looks like a new fangle component above the spring that would stop the mechanism from hitting/bottoming out on the cover.

I'm sure you'll be able to locate a reasonable substitute.

I think that is actually a repurposed wire grommet that should be available at a well stocked hardware store or else from an electrical supply place. They put these into a hole that a wire passes through so that the wire won't rub against the hole and strip off the insulation and short out. The little valley running around the outer circumference is meant to fit against the edges of the hole to hold the grommet in place (although it serves no purpose on the throw off ). You can probably buy a bag of 10 or 20 of them for less than the cost of one from Ludwig (if they do still have them).

Here's one example...

Hoppy and K.O.-thanks so much for the detailed info on such an insignificant part and i thought this thread was lost due to that fact-(no replies) that is... until you guys.Very much appreciated and i`ll follow the hardware store route on this one.One less small original part on the snare but nice to have that grommet cover protection. Thanks again guys for taking the time over such a small part-you`re the best!
