Hello,

Sonor built some different snare drums at that time, so there

are different types that all would fit with the rest of the set.

I think more important is the question:

should it be a snare with a wood shell or better made of steel?

If it must be Sonor, eBay is my best guess, or this one here:

www.sonormuseum.com/forum

There your query could be successful, too.

Good luck!

do you have any idea what year that would be...and maybe the name of the type of sonor drum set it is...like the model or whatever?...i mean basicly i really just want the shell and the lugs and **** to match you know...i mean if thats possible...and all the other snares he has had have been wood so i guess wood would be the way to go.

Guess it's from the 60s (due to the teardrop lugs design).

Here's another link:

www.sonormuseum.com

Either you may search in 'Identify your kit' or you may be successful

at the 'catalogs' therein.

www.sonormuseum.com (without '/forum')

Have a look on the left side:

There you may find detailed information about the drumset.

I guess you have the possibility to have a close look at that

Sonor of your brother so that you can compare it with the

pics on this website.

Concerning registration at the forum: I have no idea what's

going wrong there for you.

If this is still of interest:

This seems to a 64/65 Sonor "big beat also known as "Teardrop" due to its lugs.

The shells should be 3ply beech with reinforcing rings, as the concealed cymbalholder on the bassdrum hints to.

The finish is definetly not original. In tha period ther were only 2 white wraps available on sonor drums. White satin flame an white marine pearl and it seems to be none of them.

There are some snares with a matching design.

The standard matching 14x5 with woodshell is called D471 (nice one)

The standard 14x5 with metalshell: D424 (not seamless, rubbish)

Nice 14x5 with seamless shell: D444, pretty cool

best and most expensive snaredrum from that period: D426. its chrome over brass, pretty havy and with single adjustable snare whires. The Queen. pretty expensive.

D422/421 are 14x5 with parallel strainer

same withe the 425

try to get a d471. there not that expensive and quite cool

im pretty sure the "badge" on the drums for the rest of the set just says "made in germany" it doesnt say western or west...and it says it on the same badge as the sonor logo instead of it being a separate skinny one under it...i had his room mate look at it and thats what he said...does that help anything?
