Birthday $ and Premier APK drums.

Loading...

Hi everyone. My birthday was last week so I'm thinking of taking the money I got in my cards and buying a wooden set. I found a really cool 6 piece Premier APK set for $250. It was originally black but was recovered in like green sparkly. It looks really cool. I don't know much about wooden drums. What should I look for and is this even an ok set to begin with? It's from the 1980s he said. It's just the drums. The snare is a Tama art something. I don't want to waste my money but it looks so cool!

I really like the older Apk's and the price seems very reasonable. Mine was a dependable kit. None of the lugs ever gave out and it stayed in tune pretty well. The original wrap on mine was kind of flimsy, so I can see why these were rewrapped. If the snare is a Tama Artstar, these seem to be going for big bucks on eb$%y right now. It could also be an Artwood model, more of an intermediate model, but apparently they sound good for the price.

Happy belated birthday. When my daughter is a bit older I sure hope she will be as drum-inspired as you!!

Julia,

That sounds like a good deal. Since it's a rewrap, the thing to check for is to see if the seams on the drums line up correctly. Those are good drums. If you have any money left over, you could look into finding some hardware that matches the kit.

Good luck and Happy Birthday.

Hi everyone. I bought the Premier set. It sounds WAY different from my Vistalite set. I love it. It's really BRIGHT green. The snare drum is a wooden Tama Artwood snare. It didn't come with cymbals, so I have to move them back and forth from my other set, but that's ok. Here are some photos.

Is that the factory color? It looks like the lime green sparkle from the $59 "recover your set" from 3bay. It just doesn't look like a Premier color to me. Those are good drums-Premier chrome is unmatched...
