Big R Rogers Drums pre-CBS or post? Last viewed: 1 day ago

Loading...

I had a small "R" set of Rogers drums back in the 70's. They were white with a grey speckled interior, which I understand meant Walnut shells and pretty good quality drums. Well today I encountered a set of Big "R" Rogers drums that were similar except black outside and instead of speckled grey, the interiors were speckled light brown.

Any clue as to the age and shell type of such a kit? Would these be pre-CBS good ones, or post CBS junk? It was two rack toms, a floor tom, and a bass drum for $200. Seems like a steal to me if these are pre-CBS what say you amigos? Are these good ones and should I go for it, or are the junk and I should keep looking?

I thinking two thing's some one could have re=painted the inside of the shell's..Or the set could be the M.I.T junk set's they make today..A photo of the badge will help out on the year of the set...Mikey

It's the standard Big R, it's at a pawn shop so I don't have the photo, but the new Rogers does not use the Big R badge at all, they only use the big R on the drum head. These are clearly vintage drums, I'm thinking 1970's but I don't know for sure. But what I can do is take a look at the badge tomorrow and then find a picture of the same badge on ebay or something. I'll post it here when I find one.

Ooh, no I take it back, they are using the big R in their badges in the Prospector series now, but that badge is nothing like the one on these drums. Good sign I think!

Light brown sounds weird. Check the the badge says "USA" under "Rogers". If it does then they should be original Rogers USA.

There may or may not be a serial number, either is OK.

Everything made after 1966, including the gray paint Dayton tag drums, through to the end of Rogers production in 1984 is CBS period merchandise.

Nutbox, beautiful drum. If you ever get tired of that one, drop me a line.

Walnut? I thought that I was somewhat in the know about Rogers USA drums. But, walnut?

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
