There was talk on Cymbalholic - before it got suspended- whether Matt- who brought it up- after purchasing this solid New stamp 20" 2650- and living with it for a few weeks-- whether he should "mod" it.

You had the " shave her down" side.

And you had the "leave her be " side.

looks like decision has been made .

" leave it be".

nice piano player...tasty. The cymbal sounds a little too washy when ridden for me, but to each his own.

It's very clangy for what it's being used for but that mallet wash was very nice to me. Probably what it's best for.

I see Heavy Rock uses but there are other choices rather than get that thing to crack.

Shaving it on the lathe would be a sin.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Yeah I'd never alter a cymbal even if I didn't like the sound. I'd just sell it and get another one that I liked better.

If I had a loud gig, I'd play the Hell out of this cymbal.

It's very cool. But, nobody wants it, because it's a piggy piggy. I haven't received a single offer on it. Telling.

....I take that back. Just looked and saw that two lowball offers by the same guy were auto-declined.

Shave it down? Really. Hey while we're at it lets mod a few Stradivarius's with internal pickups. ;) I agree the cymbal doesn't sound that great on the sound file, but my son and I have a 20" New Stamp which is a bit lighter in weight that sounds similar and records in a studio much better than it sounds live.

heheheh.... I'm not sure that a heavy New Stamp compares well with a Stradivarius.

I know. It was hyperbole on my part to suggest that modifying vintage gear in the hopes of improving the sound may not be the best way to approach what to many of us is a mediocre cymbal. Someone out there may actually like it as is. Even if the modifications improve things enough to make it a more useable cymbal, it will no longer be an old K.

It's not a bad cymbal -- it's just not a Tony cymbal. It would probably be a great big band cymbal, or orchestral cymbal. I'd leave it alone.
