Of course, the choice is yours, but I prefer to use the same weight of drumheads that Ludwig would have used back when the drum was brand new. Therefore, I recommend a Remo coated Diplomat batter and a clear Diplomat snare head.

Well, overtones or not, it will sound close to the way and Acrolite sounded when it was new. If you want to attenuate the overtones, then an old method is to use a small bit of tape -painter's masking tape (the blue stuff) works well for me.

Coated G1 really improved the sound of mine. I do have 2.3 hoops on it, if that changes things. It's my go-to snare, fits about any gig..........Bill D.

Yeah, I think most people these days will prefer an "Ambassador" weight head to a Diplomat weight head, but I play very lightly and have sensitive hands and I like the little extra flex that the thinner weight mylar film facilitates. The nice thing about an Acrolite is that they ALWAYS sound good. In fact, you would have to work to make one sound bad.

I use to be an Ambassador guy, but reading many of your posts O-lugs, mentioning Diplomats and the comparison to Old Ludwig heads, I had to give them a try.

And sure enough, I liked them better and found my new main head for some time now.

in fact I play folk rock, so sometimes lightly, sometimes a bit hard...

Diplomats won't be too thin ?

That's the thing about an acrolite, its so versatile that you can use many head combinations and get a great sound. Seems like there's really no bad answer in my opinion, just depends on what you want. For me, I use an Aquarian Hi-Energy on the batter and I get that fat rock sound and great projection.
