Beltone Snare by Pearl?

Loading...

I went away for the weekend with my wife and prior to heading to Ottawa I found this 8-lug snare advertised on one of the on-line sales systems like the bay.

I reached out and the guy still had it so he met me at the hotel and I picked it up.

I love the wrap on it and have not seen that one before.

Definitely a stencil kit snare, but not sure if it was made by a Pearl or not? He still has the rest of the kit but wouldn't part with it. Will need a new top head and a little TLC to get her to shine again.

Any info on the Beltone line would be greatly appreciated.

Michael

Hi Michael!

Great looking snare drum! I have no idea what the color is called. Never seen that one before...which is why I love these MIJ snare drums! There was just some cool wraps!

Yes, it is a stencil and it does appear to be manufactured by Pearl. Looking at the tone control, my guess is that the internal mechanism resembles a Rogers. If so, I would say your drum is around 1968-69.

Good score!

Nice find. Strange that he has the matching kit in a uncommon wrap and sells the matching snare drum.

Great score Mike

Wow what an awesome wrap

strikes me as a little odd also that the seller would break up the kit

On the other hand I have seen where many love the sound of the MIJ bass and toms

but not so much the snare drums

still I myself could not fathom separating that unique drum (Pearl for sure) from the rest

also I would take a few more runs at that seller in the future just in case

I found it strange also but he said he is in a touring and recording band and told me, even as Kenwood said, that he loves the sound of the tom, BD and FT but the snare would not project as much as he wanted and was looking for a deeper one.

He has my number for when he's ready to part companies with the kit.

I am more than willing to make a 2.5 hour drive to pick it up, plus I can visit Dave's drum shop when I'm there, an added bonus !

Thanks !

Dave at Dave's Drum Shop is such a great guy. You would think you could find a spot in a closet somewhere so as not to break up a kit.

Hey Michael! She's a beauty! I found some info on Beltone here: http://jedistar.com/beltone-2/

Their amps were made by Teisco and imported to US by Davis Importing Co Ltd, whom (I'm presuming) were importing Pearl stencils under the Beltone name. I've never seen that wrap though. Actually, now that I found a Teisco wiki they seem to have made drums up until 1969 (acquisition by Kawai.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teisco

So this could be a Teisco stencil snare. As I dig the name Delray also keeps popping up with Teisco. That's about the best I can do in real time. Hope that helps!
