Beginner with a question

I am learning as much as possible about Rogers myself...being a new vintage Rogers owner. The Dynasonic is a 7 line with B&B lugs. It is my understanding that this is probably a very early Dynasonic and pretty valuable. I've owned several Ludwig sets and even a 65' Supersensitive and then went to Gretsch; which I coveted until I built this Rogers kit. You have a set that will stand against any contemporary kit. Just my opinion.

Thanks O-Lugs!I just checked the bass. The inside sticker says "Spotlight". What does that mean? Also, here's an upclose pic of a lug on the snare. Hope this helps!

S85,

Spotlight was a line of drums that Rogers carried in the late 50's to early 60's. From what I can tell it was like thier 2nd line behind the Holiday drums. The Spotlight line was either discontinued in the 1962 catalog or it was replaced by the Tower line. They are distinguished by the single row of double tensioned lugs on the center of the drum instead of 2 rows of single tensioned lugs.

That is a very nice early Dyna-Sonic snare drum with bread & butter lugs and a nice clockface strainer. It has the early football shaped badge too, what is the serial number on the badge? That alone is a very nice and valuable drum.

You have got a great set of drums there well worth caring for and using - many people consider the white marine pearl a highly desireable color too. I would guess those drums are worth at least $1,500 (in particular that Dyna Sonic snare), and you got them for free?!

Have some fun playing them and caring for them, that is wonderful.

I just read wflkurt's comment, and if the floor tom is 14" that kit is even more valuable!

Looks like a nice set you have there. I think the bass drum might have a sticker inside that says "spotlight". The single center lugs would indicate a student model allthough the studen model then was as nice as the higher end. They used the same shell but made the set cheaper by using a lug in the center rather than lugs at each end.

The toms look like holiday models because of the lugs on each side. I think that floor tom looks like a 14" and those can be worth a bit. Unfortunately your set has the bread and butter lugs and those are very prone to cracking. Check each lugs and look for hairline cracks.

There is another forum called drumforum.org and in the vintage section there are some extremely knowledgable members there that know everything about Rogers. I would check there to get the most thorough results.

I would assume you do have an early dynasonic given the fact that it has bread and butter lugs. Beaver tail lugs replaced the bread and butter around 1964 and they held up much better.

Good luck and I would definately try to make something of the Rogers and ditch the other set. Having one tom up top was the norm in the 50's and early 60's.

Sorry, replied to late. Looks like you figured out about the bass drum being a spotlight.

You have one very valuable Rogers set. Spotlight is the model name for the bass drum. The toms are going to be something else, probably early Holiday. The snare is a B&B lug seven line Dyna-Sonic that, depending on condition, is worth somewhare from $500 to $1000. The borken B&B lugs are quite common. Do not overtighten any of the drums especially the snare or you will get more cracked and broken lugs. WMP (white marine pearl) is one of the most sought after finishes. The drums alone without the snare should be worth about $1000 to $1500. Great score!Excited

Come over to the Rogers Owners Forum and post some better pictures and close ups on the interior of the drums and we can date them for you and give you a better idea of value. The link is below my signature.

Wow, thanks for all of the comments! I'm really excited that you all think that these are nice, considering that I got them for free! I will go post better pics in the Rogers Drums forum.

Thanks for the help!

Not recruiting at all just trying to offer help from Rogers specialists. I recommend the Vintage Drum Forum all the time on the Rogers Owners Forum. This is a great forum here and covers so many drums. The ROF is strictly Rogers. There's, hopefully, room for us all.

LOL, it's ok! I'll post them here too! I was going to go take pics of them, but I got sidetracked for the rest of the day.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend what kind of heads I should get for them?
