Dan if your a big Clint Eastwood fan I have a movie poster from "Gran Torino" you can have. I have so many pictures and posters there's just no room for it. If you'd like it send me a PM with your address and I'll send it out to you.
Been busy as heck....

Glenn, I certainly appreciate the offer and will send the PM. I got room for a Clint Eastwood poster....LOL.
Latzy-yes, that flame job is sweet! I bet a whole kit like that would look freaking killer too!
Jeff - I think you are underselling your "plain old laquer job" just a tad....LOL. The snare looked like it had halfways melted shrink wrap all over it when it left and looked like a brand new dining room table when it came back....LOL.
Offer still stands. I practically live in Louisiana anymore so if ever in the area, swamp food is on me!
Thank you!

Do you deliver? Excited
How did you know? Yes, that is the same flame pattern I was going to use on Dans Slingy snare. Now that I see how yours was done I wish I would have tried that approach. It would have been much easier then what I was trying to do. Dan had to settle for a simple stain and lacquer job, I hate it when I fail!
Alright, confession time. While this finish is certainly achievable, the one on my drum is, in fact, a prototype wrap by DrumART. Jim made this for me a few years ago in a variety of thicknesses and finishes. It does look good and hard to tell that its a wrap.
As far as an entire kit, it would look good. I had intentions of doing it someday, but life has got in the way at the moment….

Well this confession sure did kill this thread…. DOH
LOL! now, now, I read it every day. I love hearing how your drum is a wrap, lol!
Dan had asked me to do a flame job on his Slingy shell. I had never done one but thought I might be able to pull it off. I think I could with a different product. The lac I use is very high in solids and the final dry thickness is 4 to 5 mils so I can only spray the drum three coats of un-thinned lac. If I continue to mess around with drums I need to look into the automotive products. But that opens a whole new world of thinners, reducers and possible different size tip for the gun. But on the plus side, my lacquer ( actually conversion varnish) is very very good stuff, I tell people they can clean their cabinets with gasoline, and they really could.
Below is a pic of my test. You can see how the thick conversion varnish broke up when I removed the masking. That orange color was a dye. I planned to dye the entire drum with red dye then use a special masking paper to make the flames then spray the black, easy right! The final detail would have been me using an air brush with some blue on the tips of the flames. Want to buy an air brush, I have one for sale, lol.
Thank you!

Can you spray the material thinner?
I can but its hard to spray a drum with very thin product. I would like to attempt it again someday if I ever get time.
Are you still looking for some mahog veneer?
Thank you!

You know what? Ho about spraying the orange, or red, dye then mask off, then spray another darker dye, then top coat. The entire drum would show grain under the dye.
See, you got me thinking!
Dan hold on, I might be sending you a fame shell someday. Not this week though,LOL!
Thank you!
