The inside layer turned redish when steamed, It leads me to believe it is heartwood (Europian). North American beechwood (heartwood) turns more on the greyish side when steamed. The rest of the layers alternate between heartwood and sapwood with the bearring edge layer being heartwood too !!

These things are built like a battleship !!

In 1977, Sonor was still importing woods from Europian lines and still doing all there work in factory.

Today they are engineering woods and makeing certine claims that would never get by me, and most hardware is Chinese made/chromed.

The "splitting I am talking about is from the bending along the grain,..the cross grain layers under wont split. The splitting is so small between the pulp cavities, kinda like birdseyeing !!
