Beavertail lugs-

I keep seeing various lugs being described as "Beavertail" lugs.Is there a lug besides the Rogers one that slope down to the shell that is a "beavertail"lug? Is a Leedy a "Beavertail"lug? Is a Slingy Radio King a "Beavertail"lug?MAYBE the 70's Tama Imperialstars, which are remotely similar to Rogers......It's like a very specific descriptive term has developed a life of of it's own.Next up-DW beavertail lugs.....

Actually the DW lug is a "turret" lug...Yes Sir

Beavertail is a nickname to the different lugs mentioned above by the drum collectors. None of the manufacturers actually called them beavertails. Leedy's lugs were called beavertails first, then the seperate tension Radio King lugs (the double ended lugs first used were known as cigar lugs just to make things more confusing), then the Rogers, and yes technically old Superstar and Imperialstar Tama lugs could be called beavertail due to their similarity to Rogers post bread & butter lugs. The reason for this term being applied?......the shape of the lugs where they slope down or taper off like a beavers tail.......IMO the only lug that could truly be called a beavertail (this is where the collectors finally got it right) is the post B&B lug Rogers lugs. The others don;t resemble a beaver's tail at all to me.....Yes Sir

DW's lugs could never be considered a beavertail due to the shape. They do resemble a turret though, hence the term turret lug (same as George Way Aristocrat series, and the pre-Tama Camco drums).

Ah,yes-the voice of sanity. The comment on DW beavertail lugs was my lame attempt at a joke.Leedy lugs do not look like a beavertail at all.Maybe a support on the side of the Chrysler building, but not a beavertail.So-Leedy deco lugs-you heard it here first.
