Only when :

1) ALL your money is gone.

2) When you run out of room to store them.

Unfortunately, there are too many of these kits available.

At this stage you need professional help. Perhaps a drumologist specializing in the chronic disease, "Beater-Kit-itis".

One possible cure is to put them next to a pro kit. See the quality craftmanship and hear the difference.

While I wouldn't do that to a kit (I've worked to hard for what I have) I certainly understand and have had the urge to........

So,then,I ask you this.Which of the beater kits construction is the best?My church set is made up of a Percussion Plus 20"bass,a Verve 10X12 mounted tom,a 14 Gretch Blackhawk floor and a Gretsch Catalina Ash snare.The snare came from the factory with no snare beds,making it useless to the previous owner.Out of all the kits I've worked on in this price range,the only part I can't get past is the 3/4"clamp-style mount.It DOES NOT WORK.Spurs are good,legs work,snare throws work,but not the tom mounts.By the way-my illness leans more towards destroyed mid-priced sets,like the Tama Rockstar I just finished.Better than smoking crack or gambling.

I've really changed my mind about this beater kit cause it sounds darn cool! I found a 6.5X14" matching snare to go with the original 13"x3. 10,12" toms 14" floor, 18" bass.

Playing those, with nice heads, properly tuned and you start to see the wisdom in what an old-timer told me once- "all drums is just drums"

I myself don't want to believe it- sure, there are differences- but essentially- if fiberglass, composites, acrylics, all the metals of the world and various woods- all float someone`s boat- then it must mean that just about any integral shell can sound decent. If I were you- I would go ALL the way and re-wrap that kit in something wild and play the hell out if it. I am not about to throw a 45 year old collectors piece in the back of the bassists van- beater kits are essential.Cool1

Unless you,re fortunate enough to have a sponsor,or busy enough to be working and travelling with a show with a "tech"handling your gear in and out of a truck,or doing a lot of TV work,what i,d do like i,ve always done even with my 3500 Gretsch kit,is take my fave 2 snare drums and my carefully picked cymbals i always use,...well,you know what im saying:2Cents:

Let me add that i agree there are some awfully made off shore garbage out there,but most of it is the later 80,s crap that i,d never consider.IF, you take the time and look at a decent early 60,s-to late 60,s you could find something you would be happy to own and play.Personally,my Star and Zimgar kits sound just incredible,and i have less than 350 invested in both of them!..I understand how some of you wont accept this,its a sore spot for political reasons which we wont discuss here,but since we,re just having fun,lets keep it at "it is what it is"and realize that no one is wrong here.
