bassdrum mounted cymbal arm suitable for daily use?

Here are some other solutions that use a TAMA cowbell/accessory bass drum hoop clamp mount, and some other modern parts. The benefit I see in this type of solution is that it`s so solid you could mount a 24" if you wanted to. I tried this fix with the original Pearl mount bracket just barely tightened and still this system held solid. A benefit of this would be that you wouldn`t need to swap out a stripped mount- you could use it just as the insert point and have the screw just give light pressure. See pics.

As I said before, I play mine in the simple, original way and have never had a problem- but there`s always solutions when there hardware laying around!

in the above shot the L-rod is reversed using the longer section to extend out to the hoop clamp.

this shows the set up with a heavier 22"- very solid feel

this shot shows an old straight 60s floor tom leg used as a mounting/stabilizing platform with a TAMA boom arm and double clamp - I like this -using a modern boom arm sometimes if I want more modern positioning options.

good luck with this.Welcome

Many thanks for posting the pictures, OB. Truly appreciate it and has given me a few ideas for using a floor tom on an upcoming project.

ok,

i tried one of those old holders and they rock!

i have my 2500 artisan ride on it and everything is ok.

the only question left:

has the additional strain on the bassdrum any bad effects?

should i remove the cymbal when not playing?

thanks!

I've got a 1950s Gretsch kit with a diamond-plate bass-mounted cymbal holder. I've had my 20" Istanbul K ride mounted on it for 15 years with no problems. Once or twice it's slipped a bit when I've failed to tighten it up fully, but it's only happened a couple of times, and I've never felt like I had to really apply a lot of pressure to get it tight enough. It depends on your playing style and the weight of your cymbal, but I've never felt that it was an issue.

And I agree with you about the visuals--that's just how drum sets are supposed to look! :)

1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates rewrapped in Black Diamond Pearl (12/15/20)

If you're interested in buying one or two, I have two Cannon bass drum mounted cymbal arms--brand new, still in plastic-with tilter tips for sale.

$20 a piece plus S&H. (To be determied)
