Are 12 ply hoops thicker than 8 ply? I have a 1968 set of Gretsch and need a bass hoop and have both options to buy. I don't know which to get. I need a 20" X 1and1/2" wide hoop. Thanks,Louis.

Generally they are alittle thicker. I have seen some 12 ply which were abit thinner than other 8 ply hoops. It depends, I guess, on how thin or thick the plies are that are being used.

Thanks for the info. I really don't think it will matter much then. I'll probably go with the 12 ply.
