Bass Drum Layout from BR, GK etc...

Loading...

Hi,

I´m new here in Vintage Drums Forum, and would like to know something about that layout drawings, with stripes and a kind of a shield with the drummer's initials...Buddy Rich used BR, Gene Krupa GK and etc...

When was it created? Who created?

Thanks

If I read this correctly, you are trying to determine who originated the painted front heads that many of the top drummers used during their careers?

I have never really seen a reference to the originator, or when it was first used.

Sounds like an interesting history question..

Gene Krupa used it pretty much his entire career since the early 1930s. I'd take a safe bet that he was the first one to use it and make it popular. If he came up with the design himself who knows...

This post got me thinking since I have scanned 100's of pages... Here is a 1937 catalog showing them for sale...
