My old man is coming out of retirement, he's got a 1975 Slingerland that he's going to clean up a bit and do some gigging with and he's run into a couple of things:

The Bass Drum is a little less than circular these days, he's described it as "a little bit egg shaped". I haven't seen this in person, but I don't know if this is a condition from the weight of the toms over the years, moisture / humidity, etc?

Thoughts on this and the best way to fix it?

He's also noted that the wood inside seems really dry. Does anyone recommend anything for that?
