Badly pitted Slingy chrome hoops

Loading...

First time post. Amazing amount of information here. You guys are incredibly helpful and your suggestions are great. Can really see love for vintage drums here. I must be in the right place.

I'm thick in the middle of a Slingy restoration. I needed a good challenge and boy, I got one. As best as I can tell, it's a 1976 era large set with a COB Buddy Rich snare (two 24" basses, two rack toms, 2 floors). The set has a natural maple finish. It's obvious the set was gigged hard (not abused), retired and left to the elements in a damp basement. Another few months and this baby would've been ready for the trash man. Saved just in time!

My question, (and I have many more), does anyone have use for badly pitted Slingy stick saver chrome hoops? For this restore, they're too damaged, even when cleaned up, to look good considering I plan to have the shells porfessionally sprayed with poly coat. I hate to simply toss them. I priced chrome plating, particularly for the snare hoops, but OUCH, what an expense! $90 per hoop at a local plating house. Too rich for my blood as I see 70's era Buddy's go for about $300 on the bay. And while I'm at it, what would be the best replacement hoops for the snare (4.5X14 10 lug) to reatin the vintage?

If you take the time to reply, thank you and too much information will be welcomed.

Also, I'm image driven too, but could not attach pics to this posting. Please tell a newbie where I can learn how to put pics on this forum. The manage attachments option was not kind to me... Dean

Welcome Dean.

Sounds like you have your hands full... but that will be quite a kit when you get it back together. Maybe post some pics as you work through it.

I would think era appropriate Slingy stick savers would be the replacement ticket. I'm betting somebody on here has some you can work a deal on.

I would post down in the parts wanted section for the hoops you need and ... I would put your pitted hoops in the parts for sale section with a free to good home for the cost of shipping... if you just want to dump them.

Best of luck and Welcome again.

Not a Guru... just interested..

Thanks for the advice and the kind words of welcome. I'm working on a photobucket. Pics coming soon. Dean

to get photos up here you need to resize them using a program like Picasa for example. Just save them at a file size of under 140kb

I've saved some pretty terrible looking hoops in the past so it may be possible to save yours.
