Asking Price for 1977 Slingerland Classic Rock 61N

Loading...

Hello learned drum experts,

I am thinking about selling my 1977 Slingerland Classic Rock 61N set in White Pearl. I am wondering what you think would be a fair asking price.

It has a 14x24 bass, 13 and 14” ride toms, and 16 and 18” floor toms. Interestingly, all of the drums are three-ply with re-rings EXCEPT the 13”, which is five ply. I think the drums were sold this way as a set, as the serial number on the 13 actually precedes all of the others. All of the drums have clear interiors and attached badges in the 350xxx - 360xxx range. The pearl wrap is in very good condition with minimal yellowing - almost none at all. All of the seams are flat and tight. Upon close examination, there is a very slight variation in hue between the 13” (five-ply) drum and the rest.

I added a 12” tom (3-ply) which was previously a concert tom. Someone added the lower lugs. Two ways you can tell this is what happened: tack marks on the wrap (under the drum head rim) where the trim had been attached, and; no tone control.

The set includes a 6.5 x 14 chrome snare. The snare has the zoomatic strainer, although there is a hole in the shell above the strainer.

I will also include a matching white pearl, 10-lug 5 x 14 snare with a “slapshot” strainer.

Also, I added two concert toms. I recovered them in white pearl from Precision, but they do not match the rest of the set very well. The toms are 8 and 10” diameters with extended depth.

All of the chrome is in very good to excellent condition. There are a few areas of tarnishing on a few rims and tension bolts.

I would include a double tom stand, Rocket snare stand, Dynamo hi-hat stand, Tempo King pedal, Super Set-O-Matic tom mount, and a one-eared Set-O-Matic tom mount to mount the 12” tom to a stand.

Any input would be appreciated. I really love the sound of these drums, so I may not find anything that competes, but I think a downsize may be in order.

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration.

Does the slapshot snare have a 579xxx serial number?

Yessir. 579012. Is this meaningful?

No, I have just seen that set before. Overall very nice condition and a lot of drums. Not that it matters much but in light of some recent research those serials seem more appropriate for '78. If memory serves the shells have the "Slingerland" script ink stamp inside. The slap shot snare is most likely an '85 model. GLWS

Slingerfan,

Can you give me ballpark what you think it would be worth? I was thinking of the $1800 range.

Very versatile set. Keep them. Play as a 24, 13, 16 with COB or wood snare to save some space.
