Many of you dont care for these cheep mij drums. I buy them because they are cheep and there is just something about cleaning up and polishing old drum sets. I will probably sell this one for some x-mas cash. Even though they are cheep luan shells the mij kits that I have restored sounded pretty good to me, but then again Im not a pro drummer like most of you. Im sure some of you guys have some tools that I would consider boat anchors. But anyway, I have enjoyed polishing and watching football while working on this Apollo kit.

Heck no, thats just for display. I have some other stands, just had that one handy for the pic, and the same with the stand under the tom and the cymbals/stands. But is seems like almost every time I pick up one of these cheep kits it come along with some nice vintage hardware. This kit for instance came with a 68 Acro in very good shape, just needed cleaned up. Plus two Ludwig snare stands and two Tama camco kick pedals. All for 150.00. The bass drum and 13" tom shells both have a center ring and are like brand new inside. They had orginal heads, I dont think they had ever been removed. The floor tom and snare have no rings, thicker shells with grey paint.

So basically if I can sell these for 150.00, I get a free 68 Acro! Yay!

I like what you've done with that Apollo kit. Very nice clean up. As a lot of us know, with the right heads and tuning, these drums can sound surprisingly good. Hopefully you'll be able to sell it to someone who will make some kid's Christmas. And it sounds like you're gonna come out of the deal in really good shape with those stands and Acro. Nice work!

Jeff those are mint~! Great job as always.

I love all vintage drums MIJ included. Years ago I bought our Daughter a set of Ludwig Accents for Christmas. Bang for buck they are some great sounding drums. The bass (22") out of the box has that nice deep boom I like. They are not vintage but playing them got me interested in playing again.

I have a lot of respect for everyone who takes on the task of restoring a old kit no matter what it is. ;)

Glenn, you are right! Those 60s/70s MIJ and 80s MIT really weren't as bad as the the "rap" they have gotten. I've rebuilt and am still building several "new" sets out of those old shells...
