Are these MIJ?

Loading...

Hi all,

Yesterday I got these Ludwig-lookalike drums called "Wesper Professional". I know the brand "Wesper" was made for the Swedish market and the ones I've seen before were made by Star I think. But this kit seems to be older. Looking at my pictures, does it ring a bell? Has any of you seen these hardware parts on some other MIJ drums? Or, are they really made in Japan?

As always, appreciate all the help I can get.

Thanks!

Judging by the vertical wood grain interior on the 12", I'd guess MIJ. But I can say for sure they are top notch of their kind and very beautiful. Nice score!

Thanks Mitch!

Yes they are really nice looking and I think they will sound good too. I finished the 12" tom today and it's very good. It's interesting to see the original wrap colour under the lugs. I must say they have aged with dignity!

The set is from the 1960's.The set was made by Pearl,Wesper was one of over 100 names that Pearl used.My guess is that Wesper was a name that Pearl used in you part of the world..I have not seen that name in the U.S....Mikey

This is the very first time I have seen another drum

with those exact lugs

aside from the no name orange sparkle floor tom I have here

I had no idea who made my drum

I stuck a Star badge on it as I was using it to stand in on a Star partial

Thank you guys!

I've seen that it has a lot in common with Apollo.

Today I'm done with the floor tom :)

Thank you Patrick!

Well, restoring these beauties is a real pleasure. I love that wrap, but what is it called? Its not vintage marine pearl is it? I mean, it has those stripe patterns...

Now I'm on to the bass drum.

Stay tuned...

Love that wrap too, good question on what to call it. Lump it in as WMP?
