Aquarian bass drum heads

I had a question for anyone who uses, or has ever used the Aquarian Superkick series bass drum heads. Found a good deal for an 18" bass drum head for my main gigging kit, and was thinking of using/trying it out as a spare. I use Remo heads, but my Powerstroke 3 is 10 years old, and although there's still some life left, i'm afraid it may go anytime. Guess i'm a little paranoid :p, but i don't want to take any chances.

I'm just a little confused as to what the difference is between the superkick 1-2, and wanted to know which one has the thinner muffling ring? The whole point is to have something that is close to the Powerstroke 3, but still has just a little more muffling. I usually keep my kick wide open with no muffling, but there are still some unwanted overtones, which i really don't mind. Just wanted to see/hear what the Superkick sounded like. I heard one on a 20" Slingerland and although it was coated (which i don't prefer), it sounded really nice, with a deep thud and just enough ring that was nicely controlled. Anyway, any thoughts anyone can give me are appreciated. I posted a link to the ad for reference.

I is one ply, II is two ply. Same muffle ring I believe.

Having a wash cloth or t-shirt lying at the bottom of the drum absorbs any weird overtones, or it does for me. It doesn't need to touch either head either.

Superkicks kill tone in my opinion, but may work on a drum with sharp bearing edges for a more modern drum sound. The felt strip is too much for my taste.

Clear and coated Emads without the foam inserts are what I use, and with a small hand towel in the bottom-middle of the shell.

Thanks to all for the replies. I checked the Aquarian site and it says that the Aquarian Super kick 1 heads are 1 ply 10 mil and Super kick 2 is 2 ply 7 mil. So if i were to choose the head that is close to the Remo P3 it would be SK 1. If i try it out and don't like it, it's not a big loss. For $15 it's a good deal rather than buying new at almost $50 and then not liking them. Anyway, i'm a Remo guy, so i may end up getting a Remo P3 Control Sound black dot head for a little more control. I use an 18x17.5 Sonor Force 2007 all birch kick and it sounds like a little cannon. No muffling, felt strips, pillows. I find it defeats the purpose of getting a nice tone from the kick. An 18" kick is already punchy and "muffled" enough due to it's small size, but because of the depth of my kick, it actually sounds like a punchy 20". I absolutely love that kick. Being an all birch shell, it gives it a nice high end punch with tons of bottom end.

I currently have a SK1 on my 24" Slingerland.... same deal I bought a slightly used one cheaply to try out.. It's replacing a Power Stroke also..

I like the sound & the band are happy with it too... so give it a shot.. for 15 bucks you can't go wrong.

I have used Superkicks in the past a did like them. I've always been a Remo guy myself, but found a certain love with all the companies in more recent years. A few of my kits have Evans heads, others have Remo, couple snares have Aquarian. Some heads just sound better than others on certain drums. But yea for $15 you can't go wrong with giving it a kick.

I hear what you're saying. Certain drums sound great with certain shells, and it's always a good thing to try out different heads from time to time.
