Anyone Seen This Wrap Before?

Loading...

Ignore the guitar....I got these three shells for $50. No badges or lugs or rims. They were in really poor shape but I found all the original lugs, got new rims, patched some holes....it came out nice. Although I bought them together, I think the rack tom is a slightly different pattern, having a more whispy swirl in a consistent pattern. The bass and floor are a perfect match with a more broken up, random pattern.

I've seen a Royal Star kit that matched the rack tom in a late 60's catalog reproduction. That's the closest I've come to identifying these. But the bass and floor tom don't match so who knows what they are?

Any thoughts?

electricit Totally awesome ! I have seen MIJ wraps in a similar pattern, but darker color.

Friggin' cool.....even the guitar.

Are the shells re-ringed or not ? Painted inside ?

The wrap color is called PEARL FANTASIA. It is a Star exclusive and was used on many Star and Star stencil branded drums. I have not seen any thin shelled drums with this color. You have a very desirable wrap on this kit, keep it well and please, no smoking....

Good info Jonnistix. Maybe I need a second set of eyes on it, but I don't think my floor tom and bass drum match the rack tom exactly. It's subtle, but the floor tom and bass drum wrap pattern is a bit more random and blocky and sparse in some areas. The rack tom has a tighter, more circular pattern.

Am I crazy?

This guys floor tom is better match for my rack tom better.......

i think its called the Blowfly Smoothie wrap. its an oriental knockoff of the popular salamander in a blender wrap that mesmerizes Ludwig afficianados.there was also a pale red version, that after a brainstorming session involving Sake was dubbed Pinkeye wrap.
