I like to hear it and I don't know who has owned it over the years but that hole needs to be protected now. I see tons of drummers including Rich that just lay it on the rod put a felt on top and no finger nut. I do washer, felt, cymbal, felt, washer, finger nut. the felt goes into the hole and you can control the overtone ring by tension on or off the nut.
Who has soundfile ?
I just enlarged it, the hole is starting to fracture.
I have couple Type IV. 16, 18.

It looks great, but way too heavy for my taste. My 22's (various brands and models) are generally between 2400+ and 2700 grams. I'd love to hear how it sounds, though.
It's I'm just curious; I "know" Type IV and also have heard (and own a couple for years) many ( a 2201 22" over at CH was very sweet) Just curious to hear 3300g worth of one; I have a pretty good idea what it sounds like (for one thing; loud when shanked or crashed)
IV I clarify as very monotone.
On the other hand I have a 3013g A.K Dark Medium and a 2877g New Stamp 22" old K.
Both which I totally like/love/
So 3300g is sometimes not as scary as it "sounds"..
Like I say can't recall a IV in this weight maybe Bill has.
the weight just sometimes "tightens up" certain Sound characteristics ( more darkness yes some times, Stick, Dries them up sometimes (less spread)...Things like that; Hard to Predict. Certainly wouldn't kick out of..bed without "having a go"....
I have to admit I like weight in a ride (nobody messes with you ; )
both heavy and light are fun.
IV are so monotone (my description) this one has to be unusual (extra triple-dose of mono-tone) .
He's asking too much (for a mortal man) . I just want to document it/ hear it/ in my head..
(just like; choosing to use light sticks some days heavy sticks other days...)

I recently acquired a 21.5" Type IV in that weight range Joe. Not currently in my possession for a sound file though. Liked it enough to buy it!

I've never seen one quite that heavy before, but this 22's from this era typically run heavier than the others; usually 2500 - 2800 gms. But I agree with Joe, that's not necessarily a deal killer. Cymbal from this era type IVa - IVb can be heavy and yet sound drier than expected for their weight with excellent stick definition, and not pingy either. Tony Williams had one like that. Maxwell's in NYC had a good example of one, but the bottom of the bell said: "MAX - do not sell." The MAX designation means it from Steve Sr.'s private reserve.
