Anyone own or seen Stagemaster MIJ kit?

Loading...

I have a club kit that I was told is a "Stagemaster" though it has no badges. Was also told it is a Pearl made, early 70s. Appears to be a thinner 3ply with re-rings.

Please see the pics.

I would like to figure out how rare these are. Mikey sold me some lugs and apparently this kit (may be) so rare that he had those lugs for about 25 years - because he never ran into anyone who ever needed them. In my couple years on here, I have never seen another kit like this - with these lugs......anybody even ever seen these lugs before?

The floor tom is not a match, though seems to fit in just fine. It is a Kingston.

Thanks,

John

Hi John,That's a great looking set..Now on to the info. The Stagemaster drums were made by Pearl from 1966-68 they were made for Copper Drums in Santa ana .cal..Copper drums became West Coast Drums of santa ana...Mr.Copper started the M.I.J. inport of these drums in the 60's.See the story under Vintage M.I.J. drum that David posted about it it tells the whole history of the drums.Yes your set is a rare name set most of the ones i have seen have been on the west coast..But Mr.Copper did ship them all over the U.S. The club date style drums are rarer than the double lug drums. The clud date sets came in a 3 piece and 4 piece only..The shells are 3 ply with 3 or 4 ply rings the shells are the same that you would fine on other drums made by Pearl..BTW the badge that you posted i sent to david i have more of these badges they are new old stock and yes they are sticker type of badges.I will send you three of them if you would like to ad them to your set but you would have to remove the grommet to do so.Let me know i will send them to you Free......Mikey

AWESOME! I must have misunderstood - I thought they were from the early 70s.....66-68 sounds even better to me! Yeah I remember the story...is this the guy you recently referred to (the 'cool story' thread) that died in 2000?

....and you are gonna send those to me for free? Ya know, from time to time I see people on here doggin' you and they just need to learn how you work and would be well served to appreciate you for what you bring to this forum. Yeah- you could be more organized and more prompt- things happen, you get way too busy, your computer crashes, etc etc...but the knowledge and rare parts you bring to this community of over 10,000 drummers is most valuable. I sincerely hope (suggest) that you document (write or even dictate onto a recording) all of your knowledge in regards to Mr. Cooper and the related history of MIJ in the U.S. Perhaps you can contribute (co-author?) the book on this that John (jonnistix) is researching/writing.

BTW- the shells - yeah thin 3 ply (i think 3) - are they Phil Mahog? (AKA luan) or indeed something else?

PM sent soon......

THANKS!

John
