Anyone ever try headlight restorer on old wrap?

Hello Friends,

Just wondering if anyone has tried this and what the results were. Also, does it make a difference on the type of wrap (sparkle, glitter, pearl etc.)

I also know there are different "levels" of headlight restorer. Some are basically just Plastix or equivalent (use like a car polish). Others are more intensive, that come with attachments to put in your drill that buff and polish. I thinks some of them may even sand a layer off.

Anyway, I just picked up an MIJ kit that is in the "Dirty White" sparkle, as I call it anyway. To me it looks like Silver Sparkle that's really been bleached and faded by the sun over time, but this "Dirty White" is actually the original color. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. That particular wrap, on the several kits that I've seen anyway, are notorious for having brown, almost rusty looking patches appear on it. Before I do my usual Windex (for surface dirt and gunk)/Novus # 2 (or Plastix)/Novus #1 polish job, I was looking to maybe try something different.

Just be mindful that it is an abrasive, you're removing material when you use it. If the wrap is badly yellowed, or gunked up, it'll work for you.

Hi John! Do you know which type of headlight restorer you used for that kit? It looks phenomenal! I've got a Rogers marching snare in silver sparkle that is dirty as all hell and I'd love to try this to clean it up. Any specifics would help me a ton.

  • 1959 Rogers Holiday 5x14 snare drum in blue sparkle. Serial number #13382. Large double sided bread and butter lugs. Part of my kit that was split up before I purchased it. Bring the snare home!

Nice job John! Using wet and paying attention should be fine. I prefer Novus #3 or TurtleWax white Polishing Compound. Wet, lightly buffing to get the top layer of grime off. Both wipe off with water. Headlight stuff seems to have a wax??
