Anyone else ? Slingerland 8" hoop

Hi.. anyone else had the problem where a modern head will not seat within an 8" Sticksaver hoop? .. The hoop is in round as is the shell (concert tom). Have a CS, pinstripe and a Aquarian PII.. None of these will sit squarely within the hoop.. No Big deal but I will need to grind some of the head frame away..

I believe I have seen a couple of pics on the net where these 8" heads do not appear to be sitting down properly..

Wondering if the thickness has changed on these head frames over the years... can't believe it left the factory (80's) with unseatable hoops.

Thanks for your trouble Jim.. Appreciated... I have seen some pic's of others that don't look quite seated.. but will sort out my problem with a grinder or file...

lj - Sometimes when heads don't fit on shells people will cut notches into rim of the head so it fits on the shell. You can do it for the opposite reason, to make it fit inside the hoop. Maybe if you cut some notches into the rim of the head, it'll pop into the hoop. Cut four notches, 12, 6, 3 & 9 o'clock on the head rim and try to fit it to the hoop. If you need to remove any more material to get a nice fit, cut another couple of notches into the rim. If you use a fine saw blade to do it, you'll be removing 1/32" with each notch. Four cuts will remove enough material to allow the rim to pop into the hoop. The notched head ring will not affect tuning. Worth a try...

I have a Slingerland 8" double headed tom and have just a little snugness for them to fit.

But not lopsided tight.

Thanks, good to know that I have not been "victimized" by Slingerland.... with the three heads that I have, each will only sit lopsided but I have still got a decent sound out of, and used the Aquarian.. Lucky it's only a little 5 lugger, just been bugging me but I think Purdie's suggestion will work for me..
