Anybody Remove a Zoomatic Lever?

Loading...

I'm looking for a Zoomie for a few parts; the throw off lever is one of them. I've not attempted removing one before. Any success, tips?

The only way to remove the throw-off lever is if the tension adjusting knob has been removed and the threaded shaft with it. From there, you'll find 2 screws holding the two halves of the Zoomatic together. Just remove the screws, separate the halves and the throw-off lever, with attached drop gate, can be removed.

I've actually got this part in my parts bin. It's in excellent condition. The drop gate is the style that uses a clamping bar to hold either string or tape. I don't have the clamping bar, though. PM me if you're interested in this part.

Yes, Thats right but make sure you do not remove the knob by it self..The knob and rod should un-screw together..I also have the arm and gate complete both types with bar and the one has the holes for the string...Mikey

Once it's off, here's the repair.....

The pressure-fitted washer will have to be replaced.

I wouldn't do it, if the knob comes off, that's bad news..........

I'd rather have a working original lever a bit chewed or rusted than screw up and knock off the knob somehow, but oh well......

I recently put the knob back on my Zoomatic. The fix is simple...

Go to your local plumbing department in a Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Ask for Plumbers teflon tape. This tape is white and very thin. Wrap the end of the shaft where the knob fits on with about 3-4 revolutions of the tape. Then push the knob back on the shaft and tap the knob lightly with a rubber hammer or place a thick cloth over the knob and tap with a regular hammer. The knob will be very tight and not come off.

Cheers!
