I picked up 1/2 of a Rose Morris kit and a bunch of other bits stuffed into the bass drum left at the curb a few days ago.The drums are about an 8 out of 10---only one hoop on each missing. They are grey pearl. I only know that Rose Morris and Shaftesbury were the continuance of the John Grey lineage into the 70's. There are clear family resemblances. Does anyone know about the interior finish on these drums? They are said to be lacquered. These ones have a sort of burnt orange spray inside, which doesn't catch the bearing edges and looks like it was applied prior to the fitting of the hardware. Is this likely an original finish------orange?
Any knowledge about Rose Morris?
I have a Rose Morris marching tenor that has a Mahogany interior that is finished in glossy lacquer. This really brings out the colors in the reddish mahogany & some panels have an Amber/orange hue, Is this what you mean?
No. The interior of both drums is sprayed with what looks like a burnt orange paint or lacquer. There is no overspray and the paint ends on the top of the rerings , just short of the bearing edge. None of the interior metal parts of the drums have paint on them. It is a very professional job and really does look factory. All I know is that the catalogues refer to an interior lacquer finish---doesn't say it is clear or not but yours apparently is.
Why can't I live in England and collect stuff from the tip?????
Maybe if you took a trip north. I found them near High Park, in Toronto. I think , though that these are the finest drums I have seen at the curb. Most all, I have seen, have been FEPOS and one has to consider the downside of picking them up--- death from splinter born disease or infected dessicated drool is not uncommon and spontaneous fires( especially with that "aged" Luan) have been reported. Once , there was a complete set of 60's somethings( can't remember the name for some reason but I know they were good ones because it said "World's Supreme Quality" right on the badge----imagine that , they sure know they're stuff). Anyway, I was in a pickup truck, with a couple of passengers and 16 bales of straw in the back. The fella across the road , recognizing my predicament, offered to take the straw off my hands---he said he could use the straw to mulch his fruit trees. I looked at the drums, looked at the straw. I mean, it was a tight decision-----if it had been 10 bales, who knows?
Lol it would seem that us canadians are doing better these day's getting our new vintage finds , in the garbage or left for dead on the side of the road . i can't wait to find my 6" sonor signature bubbinga in some seedy dumpster . great score calfskin .

Ha-ha, Phil,... :D
can you post some pics. i have an R&M snare (6 lugger) that sounds killer. i have been trying to sell it but i am not sure what its worth. i would like to see yours.
i am not sure what the interior of my snare looks like.
if you need a snare let me know.
Nice little drum. I would be interested in what the shell interior looks like. Yours is a model 502 and as such was the junior model of snare drum. I guess, if I want to complete the kit,it would be best to aim for the one that would have originally graced my bass drum and tom----a model 415----which was the top line wood shell drum. I'll keep it in mind , though.----wrap looks to be the same. I orginally thought grey pearl but I now think it is blue storm pearl.
when i get home i will post some pics of the interor
