Ok then, note to self... if signed by Krupa, don't sell! Thanks Onemat

Yeah that's a heart breaker.. Louis Armstrong's drummer for 40-50 years, you'll probably see it show up on the Antique Road Show.

Matt..

I was reading about Barrett Deems. Great quote from Louie Armstrong about Deems energy level "He makes coffee nervous!"

Who knows, maybe that kit will find it's way back to you.

Interesting to find he died about 9 years ago here in Columbus, Ohio a couple of blocks from where I work.

Thanks for sharing that story.. led me down an intersting path.

Kind of interesting.. the light blue color is contact paper.. underneath are well preserved "Sparkling Blue" factory wraps. I've only peeled a little back but it is looking sweet!:)

Bass drum is 14x22, the consolette has been moved to the center of the drum to accomodate double toms. Those appear to be the only two "extra" holes in the shells. Two shell mount L arms mounts missing. Angled spurs with tighteners that match the old style t-rods. Badge hole.. no badge.

Floor tom is 16x16 push button straight legs (buttons busted of course) double muffler.. smaller chrome knob. Legs are decent, a little scratched up.

Single orginal mounted tom is 13x9.. double muffler. 12" tom is Slingerland but was added and rewraped in sparkling blue then covered in contact paper.. single muffler.

Snare.. 14x6 8 lugs, clams shell (missing some pieces) double muffler.. looks like a solid maple shell. Wrapped in sparkling blue. Badge hole.. no badge.

Hi hats.. Avedis Zildjain, USA 14" stamped NEW BEAT. Other cymbal is junk.

Krupa hi hat pedal #836 stand, ludwig speed king bass pedal. Slingerland 897 (cheap)snare stand.

I'm excited, I think it can be a very good project! I'm taking it back to the orginal config.. 4 piece with 2 shell mount cymbals and the Krupa hi-hat..

So that was a score!!!!!!

If that is a solid shell then it is a Radio King!

Worth the price in gas! plus another 200 miles or more!

Clean that snare up, find the parts and it will easily be a $200 or more snare drum.

You will have to address the black painted interior.

Congrats

There is a set of push buttons on Ebay with $100 Buy it Now....

That is a little high, so expect to pay in that range or less.

Thanks David.:)

I do feel like it was a solid score... but they will be a lot of work (DOH why did he paint the interiors black:confused: ). Still I think it will be a real nice "Sparkling Blue" Krupa Deluxe Ensemble when I'm done.

I guess I need to shift this over to the "Restoring Thread" because I do have some questions on these clam shell strainers.

Wow.. I just have to share... still I'm no where close to done with the snare, let alone the rest of the kit but I just had to put some chrome back on the shell to get an idea what this was going to look like.. the Sparking Blue with the chrome rubbed out and a new diplomat on top.. these things are gorgeous.Yes Sir

When I first saw this post, my initial reaction was pass and run.......... I figured they were not slingerland at all. But now, I think you made a great score.
