Is it worth a hundred bucks and a 12 hour round trip? No badges, no markings, poor condition is the description.
Any ideas on this set...
Sure looks like Slingerland to me Clam Shell on the snare... With the cymbals? Are they Zildjian? I guess with gas and $100 it is probably just making it depending on those cymbals...
David
Hmm.
Be sure to ask if there are any "left over" parts ( ie: hoops and T-Rods )
A nice winter restoration for what, $300.00?
Assuming U take the Toyota...
Cool
I was thinking maybe late 50's Slingerland based on those stands and the tom holder.
Solid advice... I will let spare parts and cymbals be my deal breakers.
Bad transportation news though... I sold the Tercel Wagon to a buddy so his kid could have a car at college.
Rob Cook, if you're out there. Your book ROCKS!!
Now I got to go get it and figure out if it is worth working on.
Snare first.
The rest should come easy around here...
Yes Sir
There are three 55-59 Slingerland badges on ebay right now... you think I should grab those for the snare, bass, and floor tom.
Should you rebadge drums? If yes does 55-59 Slingerland seem right for this set?
Depending on what they actually are, the toms were not badged.
So there is a hole for the badge on the floor tom, but not the mounted toms ?
David
I was making a ton of assumptions about the kit. I need to drive up to Chicago and pick it up... but the badge auction will end before I can do that.
My (excitable) assumptions:
First, is that it actually is a Slingerland kit.
Second, is that the date really is late 50's
Third, is that the floor tom, bass and snare would be badged but not the mounted toms.
Forth.. this was Gene Krupa's personal practice kit and I will find it signed by him and Bud, with a picture inside the snare, when I pull the heads off. (ok this one is a reach.. but it could happen)
I traded for a white Cortex Ludwig kit once. I wasn't real excited until I received the drums and found custom engraved plates with a drummer's name on them... Barrett Deems. Ludwig confirmed it had indeed been Barrett's kit. Unfortunately I hated the way these late seventies cortex shells sounded, so I sold the kit. I wish I hadn't now. It wasn't like they were Krupa's or Buddy's, but Barrett was pretty cool. How many guys can say they were Louis Armstrong's drummer for 40-50 years? Should have kept them, dammit!
