Any help to ID this snare?

Loading...

Hello world, this is my first post. I just bought this snare on ebay for cheap...I figured it could be fun to investigate. The seller ID'd it as a 70's drum, but that's all the info he had. I can tell it's an entry-level drum because of the composite wood it's made of (painted gray on the inside, BTW), but that's all I got. It has no badges, and I'm no good at identifying these things from the lugs. Anyway, take a look at the pics, any ideas would be awesome. Thanks!

Made in Japan Slingerland copy, possibly a Star bassed on the round badge imprint.

Thanks for the info. Do you think it's from the 70's as the seller guessed, or is there no good way to tell? Worth spending any time cleaning this POS up?

Yeah, late 60's-70's or so. If you clean 'er up, replace the air vent, maybe sand teh bearing edges if they are rough...she will be half-decent. Although market value on these in only around $50 or so...

They do sound pretty OK, especially for a $20-30 snare, once cleaned and re-edged.Walking I have three of the wooden ones, and they all have a very unique sound. One is pretty much the same as yours, a Majestic (blue flame is the name of the wrap, BTW), however yours would not be the same name, due to the round badge. One is a dead knock off of a 60s Slingerland Radio King single ply, and it has a great tone and cracks very nicely. The third is, well, still a work in progress, let's say. It has some issues, and it is a Pearl stencil that I cannot get to stop ringing. I have not added any duct tape as of yet....
