Another Zildjian Stamp question...

Loading...

Hey ya'll-

Is this a 50's or closer to a trans stamp? Has me a little stumped but I am still waiting to receive the cymbal. Thanks!

It should be a late 50s Small Stamp, SSB variant.

You can rule out all the other stamps on various grounds. Not a Trans Stamp because the TURKISH CYMBALS isn't close enough the the ZILDJIAN, and there are dots in U.S.A. (among other things listed on my site)

And the other thing you need to rule out is the Large Stamp Type 3, which also lacks the 3 dots in a triangle.

That one is taller than the late 50s Small Stamps. 1.25" for the Small Stamps and 1 7/8" for the Large Stamps. But you can also tell them apart from the pattern of the bold elements. Also the Large Stamp Type 3 is almost always missing the top portion. Yours has the top portion intact which tells me it is the B variant of the Small Stamp, and that it isn't going to be the Large Stamp Type 3.

I'm still working on some other techniques which allow a beginner to tell if a particular stamp impression is a Large Stamp Type 3 or a Small Stamp A. The bold pattern works. If the AVEDIS is less bold than the ZILDJIAN and the Ottoman section it's a Small Stamp, if the whole stamp is even in terms of bold/not bold then it is a Large Stamp.
