Another Yamaha project

Well this one took a bit of effort but it's done now and looking good. It didn't help that a previous owner had got pretty loose with the silver spray paint on the chrome. To remove the paint I used paint thinners which worked great but it pays to be careful what plastic container you use for soaking. The snare lugs were placed in an ice-cream container with a bath of thinners. 10 minutes later it was a small pile of sticky, oily sludge. My lugs looked like seabirds caught in an oil slick. After all the paint (and sludge) was removed from the chrome parts it revealed that the previous owner had also got pretty loose with the steel wool, especially on the snare shell. The snare is the worst part with some rust and chrome damage but it's ok and it sounds great - very heavy steel shell. There are some very minor cracks in the wrap on top of the BD running in the direction of the oyster finish so you can hardly see it. Otherwise it's a beauty, and a keeper.

Beautiful Work Andrew.

Is that the one I tried to sneakily offer you for on Trade Me?

Looks radically different now.

Well done.

Are you not a fan of rail mounts Andrew?

The snare stand instead mounting always looks classy though

I do use them on a couple of kits. This one doesn't have one though. It has a pole mount but it's a little awkward and one side (for the 2nd 12" tom) is missing.

Hey!

happy to see some Yamaha friends here ;)

I just get one in Blue Silk, it's the same as your Orange one Fayray

Same bullet mouting tomtom, without consolette

Did someone get catalogue of this model?

My big probleme is the bass drum missing... i only have bass drum 20" and tom tom 13"... but excellent condition, just perfect.

I will post a picture after cleaning ^^

So it's a YD205, right? there is no serial on it but vintage Y Badge, 6 lugs on bass drums, 6 on tom tom... ok i will take a picture... easy to talk after!

This is the one that didn't sell. It's been listed for a while.

Thanks Rich. This thread is a bit old now. After gigging with the kit for a while I sold it on to a young guy who loves it. I did pass on the details about the snare on ebay.

Sgt_pepers - get some pics up in a new thread and I'm sure all your questions will be answered.
