another vintage melodic restore

This is a mid 50s Jenco vibraphone. It's not a premium model like a Musser or Deagan so I wasn't too worried about keeping it original. The original look is ugly anyway what with all that gold paint. This would be an instrument you might find in a bandroom or university jazz group but the construction is on par with what you'd expect of an American made instrument of the era - very well built and the bits that count, the bars, are the same found in pro models. Anyway, I did a total tear down, strip and refinish the frame, tubes and racks, re-string and new damper, straighten everything out, service the motor, send the bars off for professional tuning and then polish the heck out of them. Now that it's re-assembled I thought I'd show it off. It plays wonderfully with sustain that lasts til tomorrow. I posted another keyboard I restored last year, a 1939 Deagan rosewood marimba some of you may recall. The obsession with the keyboards continue...

I'll probably sell this if anybody might have an interest and it will go for a LOT less than a new model.

Looks really nice. Makes a drum cleanup look like "childs play". GLWS.
