Great looking restore. Just love that you are passing it on to your son.

My daughter used a supra for her first solo-ensemble last year. The judge scribbled 'great snare sound' at the top of the score sheet.

Thanks for all of the great comments. When I first received the drum, I was kind of skeptical and had second thoughts about my purchase. Especially, after I saw the chrome peeling issue, but everything turned out fine.

I was able to play it the other night, when my son wasn't home. He likes snares with a crispy cracking sound, so I initially set the batter head to around 95 and the snare head just under 90 with a DrumDial. It's really snappy, especially with the 30 wire snares. I also noticed it sounds even better with the batter head muffler partially on. Less metallic and more snappy.

He does have solo-ensemble coming up, so maybe he'll use it. Maybe the shiny chrome, vintage keystone and awesome Supra sound will distract the judges. :p

the Supra is my favourite snare. I cut my teeth collecting by restoring a bunch of them. I have never been dissappointed by one. From pitted to spotless, they all shine with a distinctive sound that is unrivalled anywhere, except by the ubiquitous Acrolite.

I love to play mine tight and crisp with a sound ring. The articulation is amazing on these drums. A wood shelled snare can't match it.

Hope your son has a blast with his new old Supra!!
