BTW he states it`s a 20. It has 8 lug BD.

The hollywood kit could be special ordered with a 20" BD....it was the 60's....Ludwig would let you order them whatever way you wanted them.....anything to make a sale then.

You couldn't be more wrong on this one. What he has is a 1969 Hollywood set. Like others have said, wrong lugs, wrong legs, wrong tom holders for a Standard model set. Its a small Keystone badge set, with round knob mufflers and the cast double tom holder with the new corporate logo cast into it. This would make it a kit from 1969. The next year, they went to the blue/olive badges.

Ya, I did it on the fly looking at the small pics,...I need to read more first.

That cymbal holder, looks like it will get in the way of the tom. Is that original ?

It's possible, but it most likely was added later as previous owners modified configurations for their needs......you've got to remember their was no thought to collector values back then....they were just drums you gigged with.

The cymbal bracket on the BD is identical to the floor tom leg mounts in case you are curious. I'm pretty sure it was for a cymbal. I plan to bend some round rod so I can mount a cowbell on that so it's placed where I want it, and I don't know yet where that will be.

I spent a bit of time deep cleaning the floor tom. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't hurt to put new heads on it. But it does indeed look like it's going to clean up nicely without having to "restore" anything much (just a couple hardware repair/machining).

The wrap is a lot more shiny/glossy than the picture looks and the metal isn't as foggy as it turned out in the picture. I probably fondled a buncha fingerprints into it I guess.

It`s the flash.

Drums shine and show nice outside in daylight with no flash.

Cool, things are moving along.

I just got done fixing a stripped out clamp bolt for the tom tube mount. Put a steel insert in there so it's not nearly as likely to strip out again. It looked like it had stripped out and been repaired at least a couple times before - pot metal...

Plus I've been trading emails with a local guy who's selling a pretty nice basic Acrolite snare for a fair deal I think. I could pass if you guys think I should wait and get a Supraphonic. Monday I have my first lesson with a local instructor, so maybe I'll wait a couple days so I can talk that over with him first.

So it looks like it's pretty darn likely that I have a "Hollywood" with a bit of custom choices. Thanks for the replies regarding that. I think the 20" BD is kinda neat - sort of a compromise when you don't know whether to lean toward the jazz guys who like those little ones (I guess) and still big enough not to focus too far that direction.

Yeah I love 20" BDs myself, punchy, compact...cool. I think if the heads don't have little divets from stick impact in them they are good to go, the one on the floor tom looks fine to me. I wouldn't touch up the paint on the BD hoops either, but that's just me...and a couple other guys here. If you can afford it, I think you should treat yourself to a Supraphonic - it goes better with the rest of the kit in all the ways that matter, and the lure of a fine instrument can be inspiration to practice...

Congrats it's a beautiful set of drums!...and all the best in your journey to play em!

What particular snare drum did you get with that set?
