Another question about drumheads Last viewed: 3 days ago

Has anyone tried Evans 360 coated batter heads? Ive just been trying to find info on Evans site. Iam realy a remo guy, coated ambs are great, I'm talking snare batter only here, I've been noticing the coated ambs sounding a bit plasticy sometimes, nothing realy bad though, so I wondered if an Evans g1 might be less so and mayby slightly warmer too. And what about Evans strata 1000 for warmth or is it too dead sounding? I'm actually soon going to give the earthtone calf head a try, still not thrilled about having to retune all the time though. All this is ONLY for 2 vintage RK snares I have. About the Evans 360 I wondered if they might be good for these vintage snares that are very difficult to tune. Cheers, and ile be staying tuned for john (purdy shuffles) 'grand opening'.:D

the 360 G1 are a little brighter sounding than the remo ambassadors.

...and they seem to be more durable.

Takes a lot more time until the coating comes off - the last Remos I used lost their coating in the middle of the head after only one rehearsal(!), and I´m not a hard hitter!

Glenn (Fer428) turned me on to the 360's, I am already an Evan's user and these 360's are really nice heads. Mark is correct in that they are a bit 'brighter sounding' than the REMO's, but it's a fine drum head and the ones I'm using are wearing well so far. I can recommend them with confidence. They're good heads.

Too many great drums to list here!

(I tied fiberskins some years ago and didn't like them ) although I probably didn't experiment much with tuning. In a nutshell from what I've heard with a few recorded examples of real calfskin heads this is the sound I'm after-as long as the sound isn't 'too' muggy and dull.

I believe calfskins can sound bright and crisp (ish) when tuned but have an absolutely beautifull buttery attack/feel etc. what to do?.

Give the earthtone heads a try on the toms for that vintage sound, I am sure you will like them, regular tuning may not suit you though
